French President Emmanuel Macron tested positive for Coronavirus on Thursday. Macron is the new world leader to be contracted with Coronavirus. Following his diagnosis, the Elysée Palace said that Macron would self-isolate for seven days while working remotely.
Before being Covid positive, Macron attended several high-profile events in recent days with the world leaders, including an EU summit.
After the news of Macron’sMacron’s diagnosis, several European leaders said that they would be following self-isolation.
On Thursday morning, the Elysée said, “The President of the Republic has been diagnosed positive for Covid-19 today.” The diagnosis was made following a “test performed at the onset of the first symptoms,” the statement added.
Following Macron’s Covid diagnosis, Brigitte Macron, the French President’s wife, is self-isolating. She has no symptoms yet.
How Macron contracted with the Covid is still unknown, but according to his office, close contacts might be the source.
It is to be noted that the President hosted French parliamentary heads on Tuesday. He hosted members of the intergovernmental group the OECD on Monday.
In the last week, Macron attended a European Union summit in Brussels with almost every other EU leader.

The European Council chief Charles Michel, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, and OECD Secretary-General Angel GurrÃa met President Macron this week. These all are going under self-isolation for few days.

The Portuguese Prime Minister António Costa canceled all official trips and is isolating himself and awaiting the test results of COVID. Costa had a working lunch in Paris with President Macron on Wednesday.
The Belgian Prime Minister, Alexander De Croo, is self-isolating and won’t take part in any public meetings.
Luxembourg’sLuxembourg’s Prime Minister Xavier Bettel, too, is self-isolating himself and taking precautions.
Bettel also wished Macron a “speedy recovery.”
Along with that, Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin has tested negative but will limit his contacts for a few days, a spokesperson said.
French Prime Minister Jean Castex is self-isolating, along with parliamentary speaker Richard Ferrand, their office confirmed.
Jean Castex was due to introduce the government’s Covid vaccination policy in the Senate on Thursday. Now, on behalf of him, Health Minister Olivier Véran is doing it instead.
To be noted that France this week ended a six-week national lockdown while replacing the measure with a curfew to help deal with the growing COVID cases.
President Macron attended a two-day European Council heads of state summit last week. It ended on Friday.

After Knowing about the French President’s news, German officials said that Chancellor Angela Merkel wore a mask at the summit and tested negative for the virus on Tuesday.
All the French President’s scheduled trips have been canceled, including a scheduled visit to Lebanon on 22 December, the presidential spokeswoman confirmed.
