In a recent development in the Rust shooting case, prosecutors have raised concerns about Alec Baldwin’s emotional state during the filming of the movie.
According to a public filing obtained by PEOPLE on April 8, prosecutors argue that Baldwin displayed a lack of control over his emotions on set.
Allegations of Inattentiveness and Aggressive Behavior
The prosecutors claim that Baldwin was “inattentive” during firearms training and often exhibited aggressive behavior, including frequent screaming and cursing.
They argue that this behavior contributed to safety compromises on the set of the western movie.
Response to Baldwin’s Legal Motion
The filing comes in response to a motion from Baldwin’s legal team in March, which sought to dismiss the charges against him. The charges include involuntary manslaughter for the negligent use of a firearm. Baldwin pleaded not guilty to these charges in January.
Prosecutors’ Assertion of Lies and Manipulation
In their filing, prosecutors also allege that Baldwin’s statements regarding the incident have been inconsistent and contradicted by later statements. They accuse Baldwin’s defense team of engaging in lies and manipulation throughout the case.
Role of Hannah Gutierrez-Reed
The prosecutors attribute the incident that led to the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins to a combination of negligence from armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed and Baldwin’s lack of concern for safety. Gutierrez-Reed was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in a separate trial.
Continued Legal Proceedings
As the legal proceedings continue, Baldwin faces the possibility of up to 18 months in prison if convicted. Meanwhile, Rust resumed and completed filming in Montana last year after the tragic incident on set.
