Ellen Pompeo will be leaving Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital after a long tenure there. The longstanding star of Grey’s Anatomy is getting ready to leave the show she’s led for the past 19 seasons, and to commemorate the event, she wrote a touching statement to the show’s devoted audience.
Pompeo praised the Grey’s Anatomy viewers for their unwavering support and reassured them that she won’t be gone for good in a message that she penned to the audience and uploaded on Instagram yesterday.
“I will be eternally grateful to each and every one of you for the love and support you have provided me, Meredith GREY, and the program during its entire run of 19 seasons! Without the most incredible supporters in the world, none of this would have been possible at any point in time.
You all are RIDERS, and you all have contributed to making this ride so enjoyable and ICONIC!!,” Pompeo stated in his letter.
She went on to say, “I appreciate you to the utmost and love you with all my heart.” You have been on the rollercoaster before, so you are aware that the show must go on, and you can be sure that I will be coming back to see you again. With a great deal of affection and a boundless sense of thanks, XoE ”
As was initially reported in August, Pompeo, who has been a star on Grey’s from the very first season, will be decreasing the amount of time she spends on the program in order to focus on other projects.
As Ellen Pompeo prepares to star in the upcoming Hulu movie Orphan, her Grey’s Anatomy character Meredith will relocate from Seattle to Boston. This will enable Pompeo to have more time in real life.
On February 23, 2023, she will appear on the show for the very last time.
In the days leading up to the departure of Ellen Pompeo from the medical drama, her former co-star Patrick Dempsey made light of the fact that she will never forget her time on the show because to the collection of props that she has amassed over the course of her tenure there.
After leaving Grey’s Anatomy in 2015, Patrick Dempsey made an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Thursday (November 17), during which he discussed his time as Dr. McDreamy and discussed some of the benefits of appearing on Grey’s (including enough Band-Aids to last a lifetime).
“She has decided to leave the show. Jimmy Kimmel made a joke about Phyllis Pompeo, saying, “I don’t know if you heard, she got caught taking Band-Aids from the set,” to which General Martin Dempsey responded, “Did she really? Finally, they were able to capture her.
After that, he made a remark along the lines of, “Can you imagine what she’d have in her house today after 19 seasons? A complete medical facility.”
It seems like it could be quite helpful!
When Grey’s Anatomy returns to ABC on February 23, 2023, you will be able to watch Ellen Pompeo’s last episode of the medical drama.
